I came across some 9/11 statistics on the web.

Here they are:
  • 36% of Americans consider it "very likely" or "somewhat likely" that government officials either allowed the attacks to be carried out or carried out the attacks themselves. (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1531304,00.html)
  • Number of bodies found intact, 289. Out of 2974 who died in the attacks.
  • Number of body parts found: 19,858
  • Number of families who have found no remains: 1,717
  • Cost of clean up: $600 Million
  • Fires continued to burn for 99 days after the 9/11 attack on site.
  • 20 percent of Americans know someone who was hurt of killed in the attacks.

There are heaps and heaps of statistics out there. I partiularly found the statistics about bodies intact and number of missing remains quite disturbing.

I have found that in many websites where I have looked, detailing information about the 9/11 attacks, there is always one comment by someone who thinks America deserves the destruction.

Many people just have no reason to hate America, they just say it. I see these as unjustified hatred and just plain stupid. But those that do, have made their points, which I will outline now. Here are some people reasons for hating America.

  • America is involved in the near extermination and subsequent oppression of its indigenous population
  • America's involvment in the African slave trade.
  • The dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Japan.
  • "For being a white supremacist capitalist patriarchy"
  • "America spreads oppression and death"
  • America is the usurper of people human rights, democracy and civil liberties.
  • Failure of America to consult its allies as promised
  • Refusal to sign up to joint action against global warming
  • "They are a threat to our way of life and values"
  • America represents the evils of commercialisation and materialism
  • Americans are ego-filled about their our nation.
  • America bombed Afghanistan, Sudan, Yugoslavia and Iraq without troubling the United Nations.
  • Americas set back in negotiations against the enforcing of a treaty banning biological also known as "germ weapons"
  • Americas refusal to sigh the Mine Ban Treaty since it demanded the elimination of all antipersonnel land mines in 1994.
  • The US contains 4% of the worlds population but produes about 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Long after Korea, landmines still kill people.
  • The use of media and commercial domination forces US good into foreign markets.

Those pair of shoes are having quite the impression in the middle east and around the world. Right now, those shoes are seen as a significant object in history and are highly sought after.

Before throwing the shoes, the shoe thrower said "This is a farewell kiss from the Iraqis, dog".

One Saudi is offering $10 million just for one of those shoes. In London, demostrators are showing their shoes as a protest outside the American embassy.

Also that shoe thrower is being offered a wife as a reward by Ahmad Salim, head of the West Bank. He says he is willing to send one of his daughters as reward. However the shoe thrower remains unmarried.

Calm down girls.
Honestly I think this is brilliant. More shoe throwing please.

Especially at Bush. I think that most Americans actually agree.

Right now the shoe thrower, Muntazer al-Zaidi could face 15 years in jail as punishment for his actions. There are demostrations throughout, calling for his release.

I haven't heard any news of Americans throwing anything at president Bush before.

Who has done more damage? The shoe thrower who missed, or President Bush?
